Why therapy?

“Feeling real is more than existing; it is finding a way to exist as oneself… and to have a self into which to retreat for relaxation”
Donald Woods Winnicott

The aim of therapy is ultimately to increase your wellbeing and to enable you to live a more effective life. It can provide support and help you find a way forward if you’re feeling stuck or overwhelmed, or if you have experienced a traumatic event or life crisis.

I will work with you to build a supportive, trusting relationship, in which we can look at, talk about and explore what is currently going wrong for you.  We will discuss and work out what you would like to get from the work (if you know, as you may not immediately have a clear idea) and then begin to find a way forward.

This may mean looking at things from a different perspective, it may involve identifying unhelpful patterns of thinking, feeling and behaviour and finding ways to challenge these.

It may involve looking at your past and how it is influencing your life today and exploring ways of being and doing, things differently.

It may involve building your capacity to support yourself and thus to be able to cope better.

Whether we meet for a short period or longer term the aim will be to develop your insight and your ability to self -reflect allowing you to know yourself better.

I aim to meet the unique needs of each individual person. My approach is relational putting the therapeutic relationship at the heart of our work.  Whilst my primary training is in Transactional Analysis, I integrate other approaches to enable me to tailor my work to what is therapeutically required.
